9 Ways To Refresh Your Home For Spring
February 26, 2018Whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not, spring’s arrival each year is inevitable. And with rising temperatures, a thawing ground, and the budding of colourful flowers, it’s practically impossible to dread the longer and brighter days upon us.
However, when it comes to your home, what may have felt cozy and comfortable in the winter, may feel stuffy and too muted in the spring. So, say goodbye to fuzzy blankets, your winter décor, and leftover holiday boxes and bags – it’s time to refresh and revitalize your home for spring!
1. BREAK OUT THE COLOUR
It’s no secret that spring is the season of floral, fresh whites, earthy greens, and bright pops of colour. And after a long season of dark blue tones and cold winter days, it’s time to open up the curtains, put away your darks, and to let some light in.
Whether you choose to add colour in your throw pillows, duvet covers, table cloths, or tableware, spring is always the perfect time to mix things up. Check out this illustrated hue palette by Design Seeds for some colour inspiration.
2. CLEAN THE CLUTTER
Homes over the winter break and holidays can become crowded and cluttered with new electronics, winter clothing, décor items, packaging, etc. So, take advantage of spring to pack away all of the things you no longer need now that the weather has warmed up (coats, boots, etc.), donate or sell the things you not longer want, and throw out any leftover garbage.
By recycling, pitching, re-gifting, or donating anything that simply isn’t providing value to you or your space – you’ll free up tons of room to entertain and relax in.
3. LEVERAGE GREENERY
Did you know that the colour green is proven to emotionally correspond with safety, growth, and harmony? By incorporating some plant life into your home, you’ll not only bring more oxygen into your home, you’ll also bring more “grounding” colour.
Small plants, big plants, floral arrangements, or trees – your next green investment is all up to you.

4. EMBRACE YOUR PORCH OR PATIO
Clear away those cobwebs – your porch and patio are back up for business! Bring out your outdoor furniture, your patio umbrella, and your seat cushions – it’s time to host a backyard BBQ.
To freshen up your porch, take some inspiration from this gorgeous DIY spring wreath by Little Vintage Nest. There’s no question that this floral arrangement will add a warm pop of colour to any front door.
5. MIX IN SOME NEW LIGHTING
Is your space feeling dark and dreary after the holidays? Invest in some new lighting that will brighten up your mood and your home. Table lighting, overhead lighting, accent lighting, or even a skylight – find the lighting element that best suits your style and needs.
Also consider adding some outdoor lighting to your back yard patio or porch. The weather is warming up – it’s time to take full advantages of your outdoor spaces, no matter the time of day.
6. UPDATE THE CURTAINS, RUGS, & PILLOWS
You’ll be shocked at just how transformative changing your curtains, rugs, or throw pillows can be. If your budget allows, having accessories that you can store in the “off-season’ (and then integrate when the time comes) will keep your space evolving to suit the weather.

7. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NEW FRAGRANCES
Spring time means that brands, perfume designers, and independent shops will be rolling out new fragrances – such as rose, lavender, and even freshly cut grass.
So, while you’re out shopping for your next perfume, but sure to also keep an eye out for essential oils, candles, and air fresheners that will put some “spring” back into your home.
8. ADD A FRESH COAT OF PAINT
A fresh coat of paint can work wonders on your walls and doors. And while this spring initiative may take longer (and be messier) than some of the other items on our list, we promise it will be worth it.
Consider re-painting your living room, kitchen, bedroom, and your front porch (door included) – as these are the spaces you likely spend the most time in or looking at.
9. SET THE TABLE
Whether you celebrate Easter or not, updating your dinner table will leave your family and guests inspired to embrace the spring season.
But don’t forget – you don’t have to go overboard with colour. Just a few changes in your table setting can completely freshen-up the vibe of your set-up.
